A British soldier has died following an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.
The soldier, from 35 Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers, died in Queen Elizabeth NHS Hospital, Birmingham.
He was brought back to the UK following the blast from an improved explosive device in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province on Tuesday.
The soldier's next of kin have been informed.
A total of 391 British troops have died since the start of operations in Afghanistan in 2001.
The spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie, said: "It is with great sadness that I must confirm the death of a soldier from 35 Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers.
"The soldier was on an engineering reconnaissance task in the Deh Adham Khan region of Nahr-e Saraj (North) when he was injured in a blast from an improvised explosive device.
