West Indies clinched the Walton two-Test series 1-0 when the Caribbeans registered a thumping 229-run victory over the hosts Bangladesh in the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
The rain interrupted first Test match between Bangladesh and West Indies ended in a draw in Chittagong, the port city of the country on October 25.
After winning in the coin-session West Indies decided to bat first and piled up a huge 355 in the first innings on the second day of the second Test.
In reply, Bangladesh made a modest 231 in the first innings on the third day.
Later, West Indies declared their second innings making a massive 383 for the loss of five wickets on the fourth day and set a target of 508 runs to win for Bangladesh in the second innings.
Then, Bangladesh scored 164 for the loss of three wickets before the bails were drawn for the fourth day.
Spinner Devendra Bishoo bowled a devastating spell and played the key role in wrecking Bangladesh innings on the fifth day and he completed his superb spell as 25-6-90-5. Thus Bangladesh were bundled out for 278 in their second innings on the fifth and final day.
Opener Tamim Iqbal and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 82 and 33 runs respectively. But Tamim Iqbal returned to the pavilion adding just one run after he was caught at the first slip by Darren Sammy off Devendra Bishoo when the team's total was 168 for the loss of four wickets.
After the dismissal of Tamim, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan contributed together 88 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was caught at the first slip by Shivnarine Chanderpaul off Darren Sammy when the Tigers' total was 256 for the loss of five wickets.
After departure of Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim stayed at the crease for a short time as he was cleanly bowled out by Devendra Bishoo when the board was giving a reading of 260 for the loss of six wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a captain's knock of 69 off 109 balls. His 142-minute innings was laced with nine fours. He fulfilled his half century using 81 deliveries amid seven fours.
Former skipper Shakib Al Hasan hit 55 off 70 balls including seven fours. It was Shakib's seventh half century in his Test career so far.
Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Player of the Series for his outstanding bowling and batting in the two Test matches.
Shakib bagged four wickets and scored 40 runs in the first Test while grabbed six wickets and made 73 in the first innings and notched up 55 in the second innings of the second Test match.
After the dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim, spinner Devendra Bishoo became formidable for the Bangladesh batsmen.
Nasir Hossain was trapped leg before wicket by Bishoo for 3, Suhrawordi Shuvo was caught at the first slip by Darren Sammy off Bishoo for a duck and Naeem Islam was trapped leg before wicket by Bishoo for three. Then, pacer Kemar Roach put the last nail on the Tigers' coffin when Shahadat Hossain was cleanly bowled out by Roach for seven runs.
One-down batsman Kirk Edwards was adjudged the Man of the Match for his consistent batting. Edwards knocked a patient 121 in the first innings and made a sedate 86 in the second innings.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi will next week nominate a successor to outgoing Arunachal Pradesh CM Jarbom Gamlin who resigned from the post on Friday night following a three-month leadership crisis in the north-eastern state.

Gamlin tendered his resignation in Itanagar to Gen retired JJ Singh, the Arunachal Pradesh governor who, however, has yet to take a decision in the matter, according to dependable sources.

"The matter was discussed thread-bare with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and she would name a new leader within the next two-three days," Dhaniram Shandil, Congress in-charge for Arunachal Pradesh, said here Saturday.

Gamlin was appointed chief minister in May earlier this year following the death of Dorjee Khandu in a helicopter crash.

However, since the last three months a majority of the 42 Congress legislators in the 60-member house have been opposing his continuance in office.

According to sources, at least 24 of the 42 Congress legislators support state party president Nabam Tuki as the next chief minister. Tuki also has support of two Independent MLAs.
